Why we use reCAPTCHA spam traps

Why we use reCAPTCHA  (a spam trap)

We include a ‘spam trap’ (which is essentially something built into the back end of a form that bots are typically unable to see) in order to protect your data as well as our platform and those it links to, from cyber attacks. Unfortunately, it’s the sad reality of unauthenticated data collection forms on the internet that these are open to abuse.

We use the free Google reCAPTCHA. - it's built into our forms to protect your data as well as our platform and the links to the form from cyber attacks.

If you are being held up by our reCAPTCHA, please try the following:

-clearing your cache or getting rid of cookies before trying again

-use a different (larger screen) device to help with clicks/choosing squares

Without these protections it is generally only a case of when, not if they will be targeted by the bots, and the need for effective protection will become more important as we rollout our plans for automated data flows between our various systems (which we need, to mitigate the risk of junk data being transferred to these systems).

reCAPTCHA is much like having to lock your front door; we’d rather not have to lock up to go out but leaving it unlocked is generally not advisable.
