The first weeks of a new school year are tricky for pupils and teachers alike. Sheffield and Rotherham Wildlife Trust are working to combat some of the issues individuals may face whilst going through this process. You can see the work of Transition Leader Lucy Wragg at Yewlands Academy, Sheffield, who sent a group of prospective Y7 pupils to a summer boot camp with a difference – Transition Forest School.
“The activities provided at Transition Forest School helped the children build motivation, resilience and kindness … in a way we just can’t replicate in a classroom environment” explains Lucy. “So that when they start here at Yewlands they are ready and equipped for the next stage of their journey.”
Chris Smith, Sheffield and Rotherham Wildlife Trust’s outdoor learning officer, who designed the sessions said, “Transition Forest School gives kids a chance to reset to a more natural way of being and learning.”
Transition Forest School is just one way that Sheffield and Rotherham Wildlife Trust harnesses the outdoor environment as a tool to support teachers and schools.
