Your once-in-a-generation opportunity

Rolling moorlands, woodlands and wide-open starry skies. The Rothbury Estate in Northumberland is a place of rare beauty, steeped in human history.

This heart-shaped haven, stretching over 3,800 hectares, holds spectacular views, hidden valleys and rivers alive with life.

Right now, this rare wild place is at risk of being sold off, divided and lost for nature.

If it’s sold off to multiple buyers, it risks being broken apart and managed purely for profit. Centuries of history, precious wildlife and local connection could be lost.

The chance to create one of England’s largest areas for nature, for people and wildlife, squandered.

You can change that.

There’s still time.

There’s still a chance to protect the estate.

To restore habitats and breathe new life into its wildlife, working hand in hand with the local community. Together, we can secure the Rothbury Estate by raising £30 million by September 2026.

With the communities who live and work here, we will create a place where people and nature can thrive side by side.

You can safeguard this historic landscape for people and wildlife.

The Wildlife Trusts and Northumberland Wildlife Trust have already secured part of the estate, the Simonside Hills, but there is a mountain to climb to protect the rest.

Your donation today will safeguard this place at the heart of Northumberland, which has meant so much to people for thousands of years.

Thanks to generous support, including philanthropic loans, we have already purchased part of the Rothbury Estate, which includes the much-loved Simonside Hills. If you would like to discuss a major gift, please contact The Wildlife Trusts' major gifts fundraiser Debbie Johnson.

All funds raised - including any funds raised over our target amount - will go towards nature’s recovery at the Rothbury Estate.

In the event we don’t raise enough funds to purchase the entire Estate or we are unable to complete the purchase for any reason, funds raised will go towards nature's recovery in the Simonside Hills and surrounding areas.
