We’re looking for a motivated volunteer to support our Executive Office Team in preserving, organising and improving access to its historical and organisational records, helping to protect the legacy of The Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts and The Wildlife Trusts federation enable learning across the movement.
This is an unpaid volunteer role but appropriate travel expenses will be reimbursed.

Archivist Volunteer

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Sort, catalogue and organise physical and digital archive materials (e.g. documents, reports, images).
  • Support the Executive Office in the development and maintenance of a clear and accessible archive system.
  • Assist with digitisation of records and accurate file naming and metadata management.
  • Help identify priority materials for preservation in line with organisational needs.
  • Support staff with locating archived information for governance, communications or research purposes.
  • Ensure appropriate handling of sensitive or confidential records.

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Interest in archives, records management, history or conservation.
  • Basic digital skills (e.g. file management, databases or document systems).
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Commitment to the work of The Wildlife Trusts and to RSWT’s values of integrity, collaboration and inclusion.

Time Commitment and Location

  • Flexible time commitment but likely equivalent to 1 day per week.
  • Initial time period is expected to be around 3-6 months (but certainly welcoming volunteers who may be looking for a longer commitment).
  • The role will require regular access to the physical archive materials at RSWT main office in Newark on Trent as well as working online.
