Manx shearwater Grey seal Puffin
Manx shearwaters may look like just an average bird, but they’re anything but. They undertake a huge migration every year with the rest of their peers! They often return to the same mate year after year. They’re loud little birds, calling out for their mates to find the right nest. They only emerge at night, as they’re so awkward and bumbling on land that they’re easy prey for predators. Seals are absolutely incredible swimmers, but pretty clumsy on land! They are solitary animals who prefer their own company, but they get used to being in close quarters with other seals when they’re raising their young. They love sunbathing and it’s common to see seals ‘hauled out’ on land, basking in the sun. Puffins are also known as the clowns of the sea. This colourful little character is a favourite visitor to our shores, and always brings joy. They are sociable animals, who migrate together in groups and are very vocal. They love munching on sand eels. When they migrate, they return to the same clifftop year after year, reuniting with their mate.

Sea slugs may sound a bit dull, but they’re anything but. Also known as nudibranchs, these beautiful marine molluscs come in an array of colours and shapes. They love nothing more than travelling to where their food is. Are you the first in line for the buffet at a party? Velvet swimming crabs are feisty little crustaceans, who aren’t afraid of standing up for themselves. They’re not always the most sociable of characters but they know what they like, and they aren’t afraid to say it. They’re usually out at night, and they’re not big fans of the sun. Octopuses are very intelligent predators! They’re excellent problem solvers and can change texture and colour to fit their environments. They often stay hidden during the day, so the best time to see them is during a night dive. Their favourite food is crab – yum! The females are devoted mothers, who dote on their eggs.
