A site proposed to the Society as a breeding place for scarce birds. This area of grazing marsh now falls under the Dungeness, Romney Marsh and Rye Bay Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and is managed for wildlife by the landowners. It is important for its lowland ditches and fens, and for populations of overwintering waterfowl, great crested newts and water voles. Natural England is calling for it to be included in an extension to the current Dungeness to Pett Level Special Protection Area (SPA) – a European designation that identifies important areas for birds.
