A site at Rostonstown Burrow in Wexford. Internationally recognised for its important habitats and birdlife, it is now designated as a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) and a Special Protection Area (SPA). With an intertidal reef and a shallow lagoon, fringed by swamp and separated from the sea by sand and shingle, the site supports a wide range of wildlife. Rare plants include cottonweed and lesser centuary, while birds like sandwich and roseate terns, gadwall, marsh harrier and shoveler breed here. Now managed by the National Parks and Wildlife Service.
