Senior Reserves Officer (Pitsford)

Salary: Up to £20,340 depending on experience and skills

Location: Pitsford Reservoir, Northamptonshire

• To work with the Line Manager in implementing the delivery of Reserve Management at Pitsford Nature Reserve accordance with Trust policies and all statutory obligations. To support in the delivery of some of the Trust’s large area habitat creation schemes as outlined in the Development Plan.

Key Responsibilities
• Co-ordinate and carry out reserve management works and monitoring in line with agreed management plan at Pitsford Nature Reserve.
• To assist in writing and proofing the Pitsford Nature Reserve management plan and annual report, and obtaining consents from English Nature for operations as required
• Ensure that the nature reserve is managed to deliver the best possible nature conservation and amenity outputs and contribute to the County Biodiversity Action Plan.
• Where appropriate carry out monitoring, or assist volunteers to carry out monitoring, to feed back on the practical management being under taken at Pitsford Nature Reserve.
• Apply ecological and conservation skills and experience to Trust projects Pitsford Nature Reserve and across the wider three counties as appropriate.
• Carry out annual programme of site risk assessments on selected reserves and ensure all work by staff, volunteers and contractors is carried out in a safe manner, and in accordance with Health & Safety policies and legislation.
• To assist the Reserves Manager in the application for, and compliance with, legal and other agreements relating to Pitsford Nature Reserve, (including ewgs and HLS) maintaining good working relations with DEFRA, Natural England and the Forestry Commission.
• To be the main liaison between Anglian Water and other site stakeholders.
• To liaise with the Business Development Manager and Reserves Manager to discuss new funding opportunities.
• Lead on the management of some funded projects, including assisting with publicity events, budget management and on site works and report production.
• Lead on raising the profile of Pitsford Nature Reserve and the partnership between the Wildlife Trust and Anglian Water.
• Help to identify potential new reserves, reserve extensions and linkages, and opportunities for habitat creation in Northamptonshire, as outlined in the Development Plan.
• Where appropriate, liaise with local authorities and agencies, companies and private landowners to promote habitat creation opportunities in Northamptonshire.
• Carry out site visits and assist reserve volunteers where necessary.
• Effectively lead and motivate staff and volunteers, so that their contributions are maximised: specifically, manage the staff for which the post-holder has direct responsibility.
• To Support the wider county reserves team as required.
• Represent at meetings, where appropriate and act as spokesperson for the Trust within Northamptonshire, addressing a wide range of audiences.
