Location: Blashford Lakes, Hampshire
The Reserves Officer has responsibility for the management of the Blashford Lakes Nature Reserve in south west Hampshire, with a budget of up to £100,000. The post holder will be managing a high number of visitors, volunteers, and contractors, producing and implementing management plans for the reserves, and ensuring all reserves are managed to a high standard.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust is the leading nature conservation charity in Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight. The Trust seeks to increase people’s involvement in their local environment and in turn create better conditions for wildlife on land and in the sea.
There will be practical habitat and species surveys, with a particular focus on wetland bird monitoring and survey, involving volunteers and the local community. The post will also entail liaison with private landowners, and fostering partnerships with statutory and non-statutory organisations.
Candidates will need: relevant experience in managing high profile Nature Reserves with large numbers of visitors, practical habitat management and survey work; an understanding of wildlife conservation issues; be certificated in use of mechanised hand tools; good communication skills; ability to plan and organise work; confidence in leading volunteer tasks and events; a full driving licence is essential and experience of quad bikes would be useful.
