Everyone can get involved
The Wildlife Trusts' movement is the largest voluntary organisation working in the UK on all aspects of nature conservation. Large, but local too - the chances are there's plenty you can do close to home which will benefit the environment and wildlife in your area, through working with your local Wildlife Trust.
From community gardening to species surveying, from looking after nature reserves to running Wildlife Watch groups enabling young people to discover and explore their local environment, Wildlife Trust volunteers carry out a huge range of tasks. Opportunities don't have to be outdoors either - you could find yourself making good use of your organisational, IT, administrative or financial skills too.
Already, the work of our volunteers has helped to secure the future of many precious habitats and species, enabling them to thrive again. Volunteers are the foundation upon which The Wildlife Trust movement has been built, and people’s time given freely is an integral part of the movement’s success.
Each Trust has a large number of both regular and casual volunteers, equating to more than 33,000 active volunteers across the whole of The Wildlife Trust movement.
Involving people from all sectors of society, in urban and rural areas, is fundamental to the ethos of The Wildlife Trusts. As well as providing opportunities for people to enjoy the outdoors by getting involved, finding out about wildlife close to home and by helping to improve or protect a local area, volunteering with The Wildlife Trusts helps make a positive contribution to quality of life, health and social networks. Whether its helping to grow food on community allotments, to getting fit through practical outdoor activity, or joining group events to learn new skills, there's plenty of reasons to get involved.
