I am sea fisherman with rod and line from pier and boat mainly off North Wales since about 1970. I have noticed stocks decline, anacdotal evidence from other fishermen I have spoken to support this. MCA's in my opinion can only help revitalise the habitat which will increase many many species. 20 years ago or there about there was a restriction in herring fishing in the Irish Sea, up to that time I had never caught herring boat fishing off Anglesey. For a season we hit shoals of herring and sometimes cauht 3 o4 at a time on feathers, as soon as the restriction was lifted I never caught another herring. You don’t need to do much research to find that 100 years ago the seas around our coast were bountiful. I believe that in the last 60 or so years in particular we have allowed over fishing on a massive scale. As one species decline, trawler men look for the next cash harvest, they have to it's their livelihood. It's got to stop, the wrong in my opinion can be put right, MCA’s are a start.
