Marine Conservation Zone Friends

The Wildlife Trusts are celebrating World Oceans Day by launching our new ‘Marine Conservation Zones Friends’ campaign, promoting the need for government to designate all 127 recommended Marine Conservation Zones to allow better protection for our seas around England.

World Oceans Day

World Oceans Day, on the 8th of June, is all about celebrating the uniqueness and importance of our oceans. We rely on the oceans for many things, including regulating the climate, providing us with oxygen, food to eat and a place to visit. However, these are not the only reasons we should be celebrating the oceans; it is also about appreciating the amazing habitats and creatures that live in our oceans and recognising the need to protect them.

Over the last century our oceans have been damaged through overfishing, destruction of the seafloor, litter and more recently through climate change. World Oceans Day is the opportunity to highlight the need for everyone to better protect our oceans. By making small changes you can help better conserve our oceans and allow them to recover. But don’t forget our oceans need to be celebrated so people better understand the need for protection so don’t forget to tell your family and friends what inspires you about the seas near you!
