Thurrock Thameside Nature Park
The Thurrock Thameside Nature Park will transform a former landfill site, and its surrounding area, into a 640 hectare high-quality landscape and heritage setting, which features the Thames Estuary at its heart.
Description
The area currently offers little or no access for the local communities. However, when complete the Nature Park will be a site of great importance for wildlife and a high-quality, multi-functional green open space which links communities through excellent footpaths, bridleways and cycle paths that can be enjoyed by all.
Trust: Essex
What’s happening?
- The new nature park will be linked by the Thames Estuary Path to East Tilbury to the west and Wat Tyler Country Park to the east.
- The park will also have a low carbon Visitor Centre which will have a superb education and training facilities.
- Finally the hilly nature of the former refuse site will allow for fantastic views across the estuary and particularly straight down the estuary to Southend.
