Severn Vale LLS project Lowland wet grassland cpt Karen Lloyd Gloucs WT
creating a sustainable wetland environment within this valuable landscape
The Severn and Avon Vales Natural Area, centred on the floodplain of the Rivers Severn and Avon, covers more than 200,000 hectares and includes a wide variety of wetland features such as old pollards, wet pastures and ditches.
This scheme, which has been running for over ten years, is part of a broader partnership involving dozens of organisations and individuals from three counties. It aims to create a sustainable wetland environment within this valuable landscape, most of which is intensively farmed.
The vision is the creation or restoration of over 400 hectares of floodplain grassland, reedbed, marsh and wet woodland.
