Linacre and northern Peak Fringe including Chesterfield
This scheme aims to address the dramatic decline in Derbyshire’s lowland semi-natural grassland by targeting the Peak Fringe area, where the greatest concentration of sites remains.
demonstrating the link between conservation and the local economy
The scheme will identify and survey the best examples of ancient pastures and meadows in the area and secure their long-term future by providing advice and support to landowners.
Derbyshire Wildlife Trust also aims to raise public awareness and understanding of the value of semi-natural grasslands, and the role that farming takes in sustaining them.
The scheme will demonstrate the link between conservation and the local economy by exploring ways in which grassland owners and graziers can economically benefit from more extensive management of their sites.
Scheme area: 37,650 hectares
