Trustee Northumberland Wildlife Trust

Salary: This is an unpaid role.

Closing date: Friday 18th May 2018

Location: Meetings typical take place in Gosforth but locations can vary.

We are looking to appoint two new Trustees to join our existing strong and committed board and are hoping to attract expertise in the following areas: Conservation and business development skills.

Northumberland Wildlife Trust was founded to promote nature conservation, protect wildlife and engage people. We are a charitable company with a headquarters in Gosforth but working across the whole of Northumberland, North Tyneside and Newcastle. A large portion of our activity is concentrated in three priority areas known as Living Landscapes; these are Kielder and its environs, Druridge Bay and its hinterland, and the City of Newcastle and its northern fringe to the coast, but we also manage over 60 nature reserves and do other work across the whole of our region. Our facilities and activities are for the benefit of everyone. Our turnover is in the region of £2 million and we employ 53 staff, some of whom are based at Kielder, Hauxley and Northumberlandia. We also have a successful and expanding trading company, EcoNorth, with a further 16 staff.

We have a strong and committed board of trustees; vacancies have arisen through trustees having served their maximum permitted tenure. We are also keen to increase the diversity of our trustees, who are currently 8 male and 5 female and all white British.

Our current main priorities are conservation and business skills. An interest in conservation is desirable but not essential.

Time commitment (e.g. no of board meetings) needed: 4 Board meetings per year, 1 AGM and 2 half day away-days are the minimum commitment.
