The appointment is working in the Nature Reserves section of the Trust but the post-holder will support a range of partners including Defence Infrastructure Organisation and Perran Sands Holiday Park. This is an exciting and varied role that involves delivering management works and activities at one of Cornwall’s most important wildlife sites. Penhale Dunes (621 hectares in area) is designated as a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) and a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). The dunes complex is divided into areas of open access and areas closed to the public (due to military training), offering unique opportunities for the conservation of habitats, and engagement with the community.
The role of Penhale Dunes Ranger will suit a person with sound habitat management skills and knowledge and excellent communication skills. The demanding but rewarding workload includes practical habitat management work alongside staff, volunteers and contractors, wildlife monitoring in liaison with specialist recorders, livestock management, events and training delivery, and wardening duties - in particular providing a focal point for the community that enjoy the SAC. The successful candidate will be able to inspire and motivate the community to safeguard these incredible dunes.
