Natural Assets Project Ecological Surveyor (6 months)

Salary: £18,500 (pro rata)

Location: Monmouthshire, South Wales

An Ecological Surveyor is required on a 6-month contract (to start as soon as possible in April) to identify Local Wildlife Sites in Monmouthshire, as part of the second year of the Monmouthshire Natural Assets Project.

The post holder will be required to carry out Phase 1 habitat surveys of potential Local Wildlife Sites identified from desk based analysis, and produce basic site survey reports, liaise with landowners and provide land management advice.  This will include advising landowners on the Natural Assets Grant Scheme (a small grants scheme for habitat works on Local Wildlife Sites). The successful applicant will be self-motivated and willing to work alone in the field, with a degree in ecology or a related field, and at least two years relevant experience especially with botanical field survey.  A full driving license and use of own vehicle is essential.

The post will be based at Gwent Wildlife Trust offices near Monmouth but the post holder will be expected to travel throughout Monmouthshire.

The Natural Assets Project helps identify Local Wildlife Sites and support landowners and local communities to preserve and enhance these high value nature sites, with management advice, events and a small grant scheme.  It is supported by funding under Axes 3 of the Rural Development Plan for Wales 2007 - 2013 which is jointly funded by the European Union and the Welsh Assembly Government. 

Closing date for applications: 1pm Friday 22nd March 2013.  Interviews will be held on Tuesday 26th March 2013.
