Salary: £18,500 (pro rata)

An Ecological Surveyor is required on a 6-month contract (April-September 2013) to identify Local Wildlife Sites in Monmouthshire.
The post holder will be required to carry out botanical surveys of potential Local Wildlife Sites identified from desk based analysis, and produce site survey reports, liaise with landowners and provide land management advice. This will include advising landowners on the Natural Assets Grant Scheme (a small grants scheme for habitat works on Local Wildlife Sites).
The successful applicant will be self-motivated and willing to work alone in the field, with a degree in ecology or a related field, and at least two years relevant experience especially with botanical field survey. A full driving license and use of own vehicle is essential.
The post will be based at Gwent Wildlife Trust offices near Monmouth but the post holder will be expected to travel throughout Monmouthshire.
The post forms part of the 2nd year of the Monmouthshire Natural Assets Project. The project helps identify Local Wildlife Sites and support landowners and local communities to preserve and enhance these high value nature sites, with management advice, events and a small grant scheme. It is supported by funding under Axes 3 of the Rural Development Plan for Wales 2007 - 2013 which is jointly funded by the European Union and the Welsh Assembly Government.
