Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust is the leading local nature conservation charity and is one of the largest of the county-based Wildlife Trusts with a lively, dedicated and passionate team of 100 staff and 700 volunteers.
The time has never been more crucial for marine conservation, with the current governmental focus on marine protected areas and sustainable fishing issues hitting the press. This senior post will lead and champion the Trust’s marine conservation objectives – continuing to galvanise public support for marine conservation, maintaining momentum and building a strong case through evidence, awareness raising and project delivery.
You will be a member of the Senior Management Team, responsible for developing the Trust’s Marine Strategy for 2014-19, to further the Living Seas vision. You will lead and coordinate the delivery of the strategy through a small team, the metrics of which will include improved biodiversity and sound evidence to support ecological networks at sea. Another critical element of the job will be working with sea users, fisheries and other key stakeholders to promote sustainable use of marine resources.
You must be educated to degree level in a relevant area, have excellent knowledge of marine conservation issues and have proven leadership skills and experience in delivering marine conservation programmes, partnership development and stakeholder engagement. You must be a highly effective communicator and advocate, equally at ease with press and media work, government officials and the general public.
