Dig In Project Assistant

Salary: £19,500 Pro rata plus up to 5% employer pension contribution

Yorkshire Wildlife Trust is one of the UK’s fastest growing environmental organisations and seeks to appoint a part time project assistant for the Dig In Project (14 hours/week). This project is funded until October 2014.

The Dig In Project is an exciting community green spaces project funded by The National Lottery through Big Lottery Fund.  The project will work with deprived communities in York to develop, reinvigorate and manage 10 community green spaces.  The community green spaces will encourage people from deprived communities to engage with these spaces to grow their own food and connect with nature, resulting in healthier, happier and safer communities.  The project assistant will support the project officer in establishing school clubs, as well as deliver community activities and events to promote the project and its ideals and to ensure high engagement levels by the target groups.

The successful candidate will have experience of working with community groups, schools and volunteer groups as well as experience of green spaces and/or food growing projects. In addition they will be articulate with a keen eye for detail with good communication skills as well as knowledge of working with deprived communities. They will be able to work independently as well as part of a team with a professional and results orientated approach. Some unsociable hours will be required in the evenings and at weekends to ensure the effective delivery of this post’s objectives.  A full, clean driving license is required as you will often need to travel within the city and sites may not be accessible by public transport.
