Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust is inviting applications for the post of Chief Executive to take effect upon Gordon McGlone leaving the Trust at the end of January 2013.

Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust (the Trust) is the county’s largest voluntary conservation organisation, working to create an environment richer in wildlife for everyone. The Trust has over 27,000 members, employs over forty staff, manages sixty nature reserves and is supported by a dedicated team of over five hundred volunteers.

The Trust acts as a leading voice, champion and advocate on nature and conservation issues. It looks to inspire and educate people and communities to value and take action for nature to achieve its aim of ‘Creating Living Landscapes and Securing Living Seas.’

We are looking to recruit a new Chief Executive due to the planned departure of our existing incumbent who has led the organisation for over thirty years. The new Chief Executive will provide leadership and direction for the Trust to take the organisation forward, ensuring it is a respected, progressive, innovative and financially sustainable organisation.

The Role:

  • To lead and direct the Trust’s operational activities and deliver the business plan, with responsibility for the delivery of its strategic plans, day to day operational issues, financial performance and people.
  • To act as the principal external face and advocate of the work of the Trust, playing a leading role in strengthening relationships with partners, supporters and key stakeholders in order to protect and enhance the reputation and work of the organisation.
  • To drive, maintain and build funding sources allowing the Trust to carry out programmes in its business plan and to seek out new sources of funding, whether governmental, charitable, business or individual.

The Person:

  • A proven senior manager with excellent commercial and business management skills ideally with some experience gained within the charitable or not for profit sector.
  • A passion for the conservation of wildlife is essential for this role, and up to date knowledge of conservation, sustainable development and the environment would be highly beneficial.
  • A strong communicator with first class interpersonal skills and the gravitas and credibility to build relationships and network at the highest levels with experience of representing an organisation to the media and other stakeholders.
  • A first class manager with the leadership skills required to inspire and motivate a team and to take the Trust forward with a clear sense of direction.
