Trainee Marine and Coastal Conservation & Community Engagement Officers
We are seeking 4 self-motivated and enthusiastic individuals with a degree in marine and/or coastal studies to undertake a 48-week placement with Cumbria Wildlife Trust. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to gain new ‘work based’ skills as well as attend both accredited and specialist marine/coastal related courses. Placements will be involved in promoting the Living Seas North West Project, carrying out ecological surveys and habitat conservation, supporting volunteers, developing educational materials for schools and organising events for families and community groups.
Trainees will spend 24 weeks based at South Walney Nature Reserve, near Barrow-in-Furness, and 24 weeks based at Cumbria Wildlife Trust’s head office at Plumgarths, near Kendal. Placements are for 5 days a week, 35 hours.
Whilst at South Walney placements will receive a bursary of £686.00 per month plus accommodation. Whilst at Plumgarths, placements will receive a bursary of £868.00 per month. In addition, there is a £500 payment on successful completion of training.
The Marine Graduate Training Scheme is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund as part of their Skills for the Future programme.
