Event details
24 August 2013 - 7:00pm - 11:59pm
This event is an unusual chance to come along and see and hear about bats foraging at an upland tarn as high as 550m near Coniston.
Bats use a whole variety of habitats in the UK, however a little-known fact is that they have also been recorded high in the Cumbrian hills and even on mountain tops.
This is a joint event with Westmorland and Furness Bat Group.
We will walk from the car park above Coniston up to Low Water (Dist. 1.5 miles, Ascent 320m), an hour before sunset and wait for bats to arrive. The route will follow a rough unsurfaced path that is rocky with some steep inclines. We will return via the same path after dark. Although the route will be led by experienced hill walkers, sure footing is essential.
Stout boots, waterproof top and bottoms, spare warm clothes, food and drink and a suitable head torch (including spare batteries) are essential.
Please be aware that this event may be cancelled at short notice due to inclement weather. Early booking is essential as places are strictly limited. Contact John Dunbavin on 01539 816300 or johnd@cumbriawildlifetrust.org.uk for further details.
