Event details
20 August 2013 - 10:30am - 4:00pm
Join us for an introduction to the identification of the grasshoppers and crickets of Yorkshire.
The workshop will start with a classroom introduction to grasshoppers and crickets, where to find them and how to identify them. This will be followed up with a trip around the nature reserve looking and listening for them.
We will then return to the classroom to discuss how and where to record our observations.
What will I learn?
The difference between grasshoppers and bush crickets and how to find and identify these fascinating creatures.
Who would find it interesting?
Anybody interested in natural history or those looking to improve their identification skills when it comes to grasshoppers and crickets.
What do I need to bring?
If you have small handheld bat detector you may find it useful. The best way to catch grasshoppers is with a jam jar. But neither of these things are necessary to participate.
Wear warm, waterproof clothing appropriate for the weather on the day. Sturdy footwear, preferably with good ankle support or Wellington boots are required.
Please bring a packed lunch and drink; there is a cafe on site.
