An opportunity to come and see (and hear) our local bats whilst enjoying a canoeing trip on Windermere, one of Britain’s most iconic lakes.

Bats are a fascinating but often overlooked feature of our local wildlife. As they are known to be attracted to water (well, the insects that you find around water anyway), looking for bats at one of our National Park lakes can be a great idea.

This is a joint event with Westmorland and Furness Bat Group and you will be joined by a local expert who will provide insight and tuition into finding these secretive flying mammals.

We’ll meet at Low Wray campsite and, with the help of Quest for Adventure, will set out on the lake at dusk to search for the bats that forage over the water. We’re likely to see or hear at least three species of bat, possibly more. You may also be treated to sightings of other secretive Lakeland wildlife. Although we’ll be paddling canoes, previous experience is not necessary and all comers are welcome, regardless of age and ability.

Waterproof top and bottoms, spare warm clothes, food and drink and a suitable head torch (including spare batteries) are essential. Please be aware that this event may be cancelled at short notice due to inclement weather.

Early booking is essential as places are strictly limited. Contact Rich Flight from the Westmorland and Furness Bat Group at richflight@hotmail.com for more details.
