This year's Oxford Festival of Nature joins with the popular West Oxford Fun Day, making this a brilliant event for everyone interested in the natural world. The event will have a wide range of activities. Enjoy birds of prey, bat walks, tree trails, crayfish traps, worm charming and a walk through moth tent! All this will contribute to a 24 hour BioBlitz, identifying all the living species that we can within the park. In 2012 we found 777 species in East Oxford. Can we do better this year? There's only one way to find out!
Saturday morning presents the rare opportunity to get up close and personal with local birds during a mist/netting bird ringing session (hosted by Oxford Ornithological Society).
At 1pm, the Festival of Nature gets into full swing. All through the afternoon there will be a huge variety of wildlife oriented activities and things to see and do including (but not limited to);
- Owls and other birds of prey
- A plethora of stands & activities hosted by local natural history groups
- Bushcraft activities
- Bug Safari
- Worm Charming
- Snakes, slow worms & newts
- Crayfish trapping
- ...and much more!
As an added bonus the West Oxford Fun Day will be running alongside the Festival of Nature; a popular event for many years with heaps of activities, entertainment, demonstrations, music, some excellent food options, beer supplied by Compass breweries as well as a “Science of Brewing” presentation!
All of the nature activities will contribute to a 24 hour BioBlitz, identifying as many species as possible within the park. In the 2012 Oxford BioBlitz we found 777 species. Can we do better this year? There's only one way to find out!
All of Saturday’s activities are free, but booking is highly advised. For bookings and more information about Oxford Festival of Nature please go to www.oxfordfestivalofnature.org.
