Join us for an introduction to the identification and recording of dragonflies.
The workshop starts with a classroom session where participants are introduced to the biology and ecology of dragonflies and learn how to identify species. This is followed by a field trip to Askham Bog to look for dragonflies and their exuviae. A final session on the recording of dragonflies will be held at St George's Place, York.
What will I learn?
To identify dragonflies and dragonfly exuviae and how and where to record them.
Who would find it interesting?
The workshop is aimed at amateur naturalists and conservation professionals who want to extend their identification skills.
What do I need to bring?
A pair of close-focus binoculars if you have them would be useful. A camera with macro facility that you can use for looking at insects in the field would be an alternative. But if you don't have either of these, don't worry - there will be binoculars to share on the day.
Wear warm, waterproof clothing appropriate for the weather on the day. Sturdy footwear, preferably with good ankle support or Wellington boots are required.
Please bring a packed lunch and drink.
