Join Dave Wainwright of Butterfly Conservation, in conjunction with Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, at Fen Bog for a chance to learn how to identify the butterflies of North Yorkshire.

Our aim will be to find butterflies and moths associated with the moorlands habitats of North Yorkshire. Target species include large heath and small pearl-bordered fritillary butterflies and the beautiful yellow underwing moth.

Fen Bog is set in the stunning location of the North York Moors, situated between the summits of Tom Cross Rigg and Crag Stone Rigg, and takes the form of a long curving piece of land that is bounded at both ends by moorlands streams.

What will I learn?

A good deal about our moorlands: the plants they support, how and why they're managed, the birds and insects that depend upon the plants and management; how to identify butterflies and moths.

Who would find it interesting?

Anyone keen to learn more about butterflies and moths, but we are also guaranteed to see plants, birds and possibly some less commonly seen species such as adder and common lizard.

What do I need to bring?

Wear warm, waterproof clothing appropriate for the weather on the day. Sturdy footwear, preferably with good ankle support or Wellington boots are required.

Please bring a packed lunch and drink.
