Pulling Himalayan balsam from the riverPulling Himalayan balsam from the river

Event details

30 June 2013 - 10:00am - 4:00pm

One of a series of work parties this summer to try to eradicate this invasive plant and help water voles along Bourn Brook in Cambridgeshire.

Volunteers get to go in the water with waders. Waders and instruction will be provided. Please bring your own packed lunch.

Volunteers need to be physically able to get into the brook or walk along the bank, where there is generally no path. There may be steep banks, uneven surfaces and soft, silty riverbeds.

We are working with the Countryside Restoration Trust and Cambridge Conservation Volunteers to improve habitat and boost the water vole population on Bourn Brook. We will be pulling Himalayan balsam the whole length of the brook over the summer  - and hope to ultimately eradicate it.
