24 May 2013 - 10:00am - 3:00pm

A free event for children aged 12-16 and being educated at home to learn about bushcraft.

The Wildlife Trust is running an introductory Bushcraft Day for youngsters in Home Education at its Moorcroft Environment centre in Moxley, Walsall.

Bushcraft is the wide range of traditional skills and knowledge used by our ancestors, who used to make far greater use of the natural resources to be found in the landscape.

Activities could include: fire, shelters, plant and tree identification and their uses, tracking, use of knives. The event will be led by Craig Wood an experienced environmental educator.

The day will be free of charge and is for children aged 12-16 and being educated at home. Participants must be accompanied by a responsible adult, wear suitable clothing for robust outdoor activities and provide their own lunch, although drinks will be provided. Numbers are limited to 12 participants (not including accompanying adults) and are strictly available on a first-come first served basis.

Most of the activity will take place at the Moorcroft Environment Centre, Hawkswood Drive Moxley and in adjacent Moorcroft Wood Local Nature Reserve. The Moorcroft Centre has toilets. There is good parking near the centre.

This activity is supported by Walsall Council as part of the Moorcroft Community Hub project. All event leaders are fully CRB checked, trained and the activities are fully risk assessed and insured.
