This is a great chance to see and hear this rare species at one of its last remaining strongholds. The male’s calls can be heard up to a mile away on a still night! Bring a torch. All ages are welcome but children must be accompanied by an adult, and please wear suitable outdoor and warm, waterproof clothes. This event is organised by the National Trust and led by their ranger.

Meet at Sandscale Haws Car Park, Roanhead. From Barrow, head north on the A590. Just before the roundabout with the A595, turn left on to Oak Lee Road (signposted Roanhead). Turn left at the end on to Hawthwaite Lane. The car park is at the end of this lane. GR: SD 200 756
