8 July 2012 - 10:30am - 6:30pm

Event details
8 July 2012 - 10:30am - 6:30pm
A visit onto the eastern Lakeland Fells to survey for the mountain ringlet butterfly.
The aim is to assist the efforts of Butterfly Conservation to better record the distribution of this elusive species in Cumbria and gain a better understanding of its habitat requirements. The mountain ringlet is found in mountainous areas, typically at altitudes between 450 and 800 metres above sea level. It is a difficult species of butterfly to see as it is mainly found at altitude in remote locations and has a very short flight period. This event will involve walking over rough terrain with moderate inclines but with absolutely great views of Haweswater. Please be aware that good weather is absolutely essential to see the butterflies - a minimum of 15degC with some sunshine. This event is free but booking is essential as this event may be cancelled at short notice due to inclement weather. Please book by calling 01539 816300.
