A Drumburgh Moss learning event
Join expert botanist Mike Hall to learn how to identify some of the many wonderful species of sphagnum mosses that can be found at Drumburgh Moss. Sphagnum mosses are one of the keystones of a raised mire, helping to hold water and build peat, and they come in a wonderful range of colours and forms. The day will start with an indoor session looking at the diagnostic features and ecology of the various species, followed by a walk around Drumburgh Moss to test our identification skills. The terrain at Drumburgh is wet and uneven, so wellies and other suitable attire are essential. Also bring a hand lens and specimen bags/pots if available. Please bring a packed lunch. Places are strictly limited, so book early to avoid missing out.
