Event details
3 February 2012 (All day)
An introduction to coppice management of small woodlands
As well as a useful source of logs and other woodland products, small woodlands can be very valuable wildlife habitats.
This one-day course is an introduction to the practical skills needed for managing them for conservation and amenity benefits.
It will focus not only on techniques for thinning and coppicing trees as an effective means of woodland management, but also other ideas such as how to harvest and process coppiced materials and create dead hedging as both a wildlife habitat and deterrent to browsing deer. The course will also outline what support is available to help woodland management.
No prior knowledge is needed. The day will be a mixture of theory, discussion and hands-on training.
Tea and coffee will be provided throughout the day but please bring lunch.
