North Tyne Neighbourhood Plan meeting - Lanehead Village Hall

26 January 2012 (All day)

Event details

26 January 2012 (All day)

The Steering Group has organised a local public launch meeting in each of the three parishes. This is your opportunity to find out more and to register themes and issues that you think should be considered for the plan, so please do come along.

The events are very informal and you can pop in at any time. Why not come along and find out what difference a Neighbourhood Plan might make to you and your community. Tell us what you like and dislike about where you live and what you think could be improved.

These are some of the things you might think are important about where you live:

  • Housing need
  • Employment and the local economy
  • Energy
  • Protecting the environment
  • Rural services
  • Transport accessibility and communication
  • Tourism

Be involved today!

The Government has chosen three parish councils in the North Tyne Valley to take part in a new initiative. Neighbourhood Planning, which is supported by Northumberland National Park Authority and Northumberland County Council, is a key part of the new Localism Act. It is a new way for local people to develop a shared vision for the future of their community and to set out how and where they want development to take place.

By taking part, the community will be able to:

  • Decide planning policies for new development and use of land
  • Decide where any new homes, shops and offices could and should be built
  • Influence how new buildings should look and how local services are delivered

Your Neighbourhood Plan will cover the parishes of Bellingham, Tarset with Greystead, and Wark and will be developed by a Steering Group of local people which currently comprises Parish Councillors. It will require independent assessment, adoption by both Planning Authorities, and a referendum of local voters. These checks will ensure that it is a lawful document that truly reflects the aspirations of the community.

Once adopted, the plan will guide and control development in your community. The National Park Authority provide technical advice and staff to support the Steering Group, with support from Northumberland County Council, but all decisions on what to include with the plan will be made by local people.

This is a great opportunity for your community but it needs your help and enthusiasm. Please do come along to one of the launch events. If you cannot make it but would like to be involved then please email info@northtyneplanorg.uk. For general information, contact you local Parish Councillor.
