Come and learn how to graft apple trees! This ancient skill will allow you to propagate apple varieties – something especially important for conserving traditional Welsh varieties. We will provide scions and five rootstocks per person free of charge; additional rootstocks will be available to purchase from the trainer. Of course, feel free to bring your own graft wood if you have a special variety you would like to propagate. Contact Alice Rees, Gwent Orchards Project Officer, for guidance on cutting and storing graft wood (best collected in January). Grafting knives will need to be purchased in advance or ordered for the day (approx £10).
