The reserve is composed of willow woodland, riverbank and fine reed marsh. In the summer you may see water figwort, common meadow rue and water chickweed along the river bank. On the far side of the river, the reed marsh is clearly visible and is an important habitat for large numbers of reed and sedge warblers, which nest here in summer. In winter, water rails are heard and reed buntings gather to roost in the evening. Stanborough Reedmarsh is managed by Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust in partnership with GLL and Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council.

Autumn/Â Winter: Reed bunting, water rail.
Directions
Site entrance:Follow the path between the river and lake to the entrance at the end of Stanborough Lakes. There is another entrance at the other end of the reserve (circular route).
Access by road: From A1M junction 4, take A6129 Stanborough Road. At next roundabout, take second exit towards Welwyn Garden City past lakes to next roundabout. Take third exit. Turn left into Stanborough Lakes car park.
Access by public transport
Bus: 601 – opp lakes.
Rail: Welwyn Garden City (1.4 miles).
