A garden tiger moth that is... A step by step guide - and short film - on attracting moths with wine ropes, from Emma Websdale

Start your own twilight moth adventure!

To begin:

Make sure you have everything you need to make the perfect sugary sweet smelling lure to attract nearby moths. For a simple wine rope moth trap you will need the following:

> 1 bottle of cheap red wine

> 1 Kg of Sugar

> Hob or portable gas stove

> Saucepan

> Some strips of cloth

> An adult to help

Step 1:

Pour your wine and sugar together in a saucepan. Heat and stir to create a sugary syrup. Keep on heat and keep stirring until all the sugar has dissolved. Wait for your liquid to cool.

Step 2:

Place and soak your stips of cloth into the cooled liquid.

Step 3:

Hang your strips of soaked cloth over tree branches, sticks, a washing line or wall.

Step 4:

Leave for 2 hours and check after dark. Have fun identifying the different moth species you will attract.
