Facts and figures about The Wildlife Trusts
  1. The Wildlife Trusts consists of 47 wildlife charities covering the whole of the UK, the Isle of Man & Alderney.

  2. The Wildlife Trusts have more than 791000 'wildlife enthusiastic' members.

  3. Every year more than 33,500 volunteers give their support to The Wildlife Trusts.

  4. Wildlife Watch, our junior branch for children, has more than 150,000 members

  5. The Wildlife Trusts care for approx. 2,256 nature reserves throughout the UK

  6. Together our reserves cover an area of around 90,000 hectares.

  7. Our smallest reserve is Hethel Old Thorn, in Norfolk, a 13th century hawthorn

  8. Our largest reserve is Benmore Coigach, 6,000 hectares of west Highland mountain wilderness

  9. The Wildlife Trusts manage 1,000 Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs)

  10. The Wildlife Trusts manage 49 National Nature Reserves (NNRs) and 68 RAMSAR sites

  11. About five million people visit our local Wildlife Trust Visitor Centres and nature reserves every year

  12. Dragonflies can fly at speeds up to 36km/hour - forwards, backwards and sidewards!

  13. There are more than 30 species of slugs in the British Isles.

  14. There are 600 different types of spider in Britain - all are harmless.
