Event details

18 July 2017 - 10:00am - 3:00pm

Did you know there are more types of moths in the UK than there are butterflies?  Join us on this course designed for newcomers to the world of British moths. Our tutor, moth enthusiast Alan Holloway, will discuss with you the various safe techniques to use when collecting and identifying moths.  He will have trapped moths the previous night for you to view, ID and release.

The afternoon will be spent discovering the life-cycles and ecology of these fascinating insects.  You will also spend time discussing the conservation of moths in gardens and green spaces.

Tutor Profile - Alan Holloway

Alan was an active member of the Surrey Wildlife Trust education team for 14 years. He joined us in 2002 after spending 22 years commuting into the city. He was anxious to get back into the countryside where he grew up. His passion for wildlife continued to develop as he taught more and more children about nature. As they asked questions, he studied more. He is now an expert in invertebrates, moths and moth trapping.
