Nightjar Walk - Snelsmore Common, Friday 2 August
Snelsmore Common Country Park,
4 miles north-west of Newbury, Berkshire, RG14 3BQ (nearest)Event details
About the event
Join the Wardens for a late evening walk on Snelsmore Common to witness the strange and wonderful night time antics of the elusive and enigmatic nightjar birds. As it gets dark the birds wake up and begin their courtship displays – churring, wing clapping and ‘gwipping’. We can’t guarantee that we will see/hear them but we stand a very good chance.
Bring torches and binoculars!
Open to all, but participants must be able to keep quiet so as not to disturb these birds. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult, dogs are not allowed.
Meeting point:Â Snelsmore Common Car Park (what3words ///collapsed.octopus.earphones)
Please ensure that you park the café/toilets side of the barrier to avoid getting locked in the car park
There will be a short (10-15 minute) walk from the carpark to the heath along gravel paths.
It can be muddy if raining a day or two beforehand, in which case waterproof footwear such as boots or wellies are advised.
