About the reserve

This broadleaved woodland near Camborne contains streams and a lake, providing a range of habitats for wildlife.

In the early 19th century the reserve was transformed from summer grazing of moorland and hay meadows into an ornamental park with features like the 250 year old red rhododendron planted along the original driveway to the house. The Pendarves family made their fortune from tin works; remnant pits and heaps can be found within the grounds of the estate.

There are two way-marked walks at the site, one of which incorporates the bridle way just outside of the reserve’s boundary. The wood is often very muddy during the winter months.

The woodland is great for mammals having numerous badger setts, lots of holey trees for summer roosting bats and consistent spraint evidence of otters using the river and numerous streams.

The wood is spectacular in spring when the carpets of bluebells are beautiful. The lake attracts both herons and kingfishers.
