About the reserve

This ancient woodland forms one of the most important sites for wildlife in the county. The damp woods support a rich collection of mosses, liverworts and ferns. There are also more than 200 species of flowering plant including several rarities. There are exceptional numbers of large-leaved lime. Fallen and standing dead timber supports rich populations of fungi and invertebrates. The reserve is being left largely unmanaged.

The reserve was purchased in 1996 with funding from the National Heritage Memorial Fund.

There are public footpaths through the wood but access other than on these is by special permit only; please contact us for more information.
