Achieving net gain for biodiversity from rail infrastructure projects
We want all infrastructure development to contribute positively to nature’s recovery. There are over 10,000 miles of railway in the U.K. and the relatively undisturbed tracksides can be great places for wildlife.
Development to railway infrastructure can cause some unavoidable loss to these habitats. Through our partnership with Network Rail we are working to identify suitable local projects which could create new natural places to replace those lost during the electrification of the Great Western route.
Our established grants making function is ensuring that Network Rail’s substantial investment is properly deployed and managed to achieve its purpose.
