Still time for to enrol on Staffordshire's Heather Hike
7th September, 2004
Staffordshire Wildlife Trust has had a record-breaking response to their September 12th 2004 Heather Hike. Starting from the Visitor Centre, Marquis Drive, Cannock Chase between 10 to 11.30 am and finishing by 5 pm, walkers are invited to come and join in and raise money for this important Countywide charity. The Heather Hike is supported by sponsorship from The Staffordshire, working in partnership with Staffordshire Wildlife Trust.
There are two walk routes, at five miles and ten miles so walkers can elect to do a walk best suited to their ability, and incorporate a refreshment point. Walkers registering beforehand or on the morning of the hike will get a tee shirt with the Heather Hike Logo emblazoned on it. Last year was very successful with over 260 walkers taking part, and Staffordshire Wildlife Trust would hope for an equally good level of support.
Marie Von Wurzbach, walk organiser said: “So far we have had over 230 pre-registered walkers which is a record breaking figure. This is a fantastic response and indicates we could have over 300 walkers on Sunday 12th. One of the popular things about the Heather Hike, as well as the good cause the money goes to, is the free Tee Shirt we give to all those taking part. Cannock Chase is a mass of white and purple Heather Hike shirts and as this is Heath Week nationally, it is very appropriate we have this event now.”
Walkers can get a registration form to take part either at the Staffordshire Wildlife Trusts Wolseley Centre near Rugeley, or from any branch of The Staffordshire. By registering in advance the fees are £2 per adult, £1 under 16 or £7 per family (up to 2 Adults and 4 children), but on the day £5 per adult, £2 under 16s and £15 for the Family.
