Tee off for wildlife

17th June, 2004

Devon Wildlife Trust corporate golf tournament takes place on Friday 18 June at Dawlish Warren Golf Club, following the huge success of last year’s event, to raise money for the charity’s valuable work protecting wildlife around the county.

Up to 25 teams of four will tee off for their round of golf all hoping to win the charity shield and a host of other top prizes. Each team of four has paid £160 to enter. This includes welcome pack, two course dinner and a round of golf all set in this stunning nature reserve.

Last year the event raised over £1000 with the first prize of a painting by local artist Peter Barratt and individual engraved Dartington glasses and decanter going to The Bank of Scotland. Iain Brown of The Bank of Scotland said: “It’s a well organised event that I have no doubt will further enhance the profile and highlight the continuing good work of Devon Wildlife Trust.”

This year companies from all over Devon have entered, including Ford, Land Rover Experience, Strutt & Parker, Gerald Wood Homes and Lloyds TSB with the apt name of ‘The Loan Arrangers’.

Terry Radmore, DWT’s Deputy Director will be presenting the prizes. He said: “We are absolutely delighted that the Dawlish Warren Golf Club have so kindly offered to host this tournament again on behalf of Devon Wildlife Trust. We work with many different organisations in our efforts to protect wildlife. We currently have forty corporate supporters and we find this is such a great way to say thank you, raise more funds and have a fantastic day out.”

The golf course, which was established at the Inner Warren in 1892, passed into the ownership of DWT in 1974 but continues to be leased to the Dawlish Warren Golf Club. Tim Aggett, Dawlish Warren Golf Club secretary said: “We are again pleased to be hosting such a prestigious event and working in partnership with DWT. Last year’s event was a great success with the aim of this year’s being even better. It is an ideal venue for entertaining the business community.”

If you would like to enter a team in this year’s event or find out more about DWT's corporate work contact Tracy Ebbrell on 01392 279244
