Manna ash

Fraxinus ornus

Height 15-25 m, bole up to 1 m diameter. Deciduous. This tree usually has a rounded crown with spreading branches. The bark is dark grey, smooth. The leaves are pinnate, 20-30 cm total length, comprising five to nine leaflets that are variable in shape.

What habitats does it normally live in?

Southern Europe through to Asia Minor.

What are its young like?

Flowers differ markedly from F. excelsior. They are white to creamy, in 20 cm panicles, appearing in May. Fruit is a w inged nutlet, 1.5-2.5 cm.
