Cherry laurel

Prunus laurocerasus

Height up to 15m; bole up to 60cm diameter. Evergreen. Crown is domed and rounded, often spreading with many different stems. Bark is black or grey brown. Leaves are large, lace-shaped in sprays. 8-20 x 3-8cm

What habitats does it normally live in?

Eastern Europe. Widely grown as an ornamental shrub. Understorey of woodland.

What are its young like?

Thirty to forty cream coloured flowers are produced on erect recemes, in late winter on last year's growth. Globe-shaped fruit ripens in autumn to dark purple.
