Cherry or Myrobalan plum

Prunus cerasifera

height 8-12m; bole up to 60cm diameter. Deciduous. Young trees have upright crown that grows rounded and domed. suckers grow from the roots. Bark is smooth, turning darker and with plates. Leaves are oval, toothed, deep shiny green above, matt green below, 4-6x2.5-3cm

What habitats does it normally live in?

Native to Balkans to central Asia. Hedgerows and field margins.

What are its young like?

Flowers on previous year's growth in winter or early spring. Flowers are white. Edible fruit is red or purple when ripe, 2.5-3cm.
